This exclusive Tara Swirled Brooch is in the form of a curled fern, Vintage 1950s 1960s Pin. This lovely brooch is signed Tara. It is in very good to excellent condition with clear rhinestones and warm gold faux pearls. The metal plating is in very good condition on both the front and back side. The pin stem works great and so does the rotating “c” safety clasp. A great piece of fashion from the 1950s 1960s Vintage. The pin measures 2 3/4″ x 2 7/8″. See the hallmark pictures on the back. The pin has a warm, golden appearance, the pearls are not white.
Background: Tara Fifth Avenue, which started doing business in the late 1950s or early 1960s, was originally located in New York, New York. The company relocated to Garden Grove, California, around 1965. Daniel O’Farrell served as president, and Fred Lebwohl supervised development and design.
Tara jewelry was sold through direct sales by “fashion directors,” either at home parties or door-to-door. Jewelry historians have not determined if those were the only avenues of distribution, although information included in sales catalogs does seem to point in that direction. Other companies produced jewelry for Tara as well, and they likely did some of their own manufacturing after the business relocated to California according to a letter from Lebwohl to sales reps.
