TED JACOBS LADIES VINTAGE HEAVY FABRIC LUXURY OVER COAT (USA)
Called a local legend by his many friends and loyal customers who knew him through the decades as owner of the ladies’ special store Ted Jacobs Inc.
In March 1950, Jacobs opened his ladies’ specialty store at 209 Fourth St., just off Broadway.
Over four decades, his business grew to three locations, 125 associates, and 18,000 store charge accounts.
Jacobs sold his business in 1991. But the memories of his legacy remain.
CLIENT:
‘When my daughter, Allison, was 12, Ted Jacobs came up and said maybe we can introduce her to what credit means,’ said Darlene Werner, Vermilion, a retired teacher and loyal customer of Jacobs’ store. ‘So, he started a $100 credit account for her and gave her the credit card. It taught her to be responsible.’
The store was recognized for its quality clothing and personalized customer service, catering to a broad clientele in the Lorain region.
PERSONAL:
‘Ted was a fervent Ohio State fan,’ Smith said. ‘He had season football tickets and faithfully attended the games for years. His red car and GOBKEYE license plate were further testimony to his passion.
‘Even his walker and wheelchair were custom-designed with an Ohio State theme. One of the last great thrills he had was when the Buckeyes won this year’s national championship.”
