Vintage PinbackVintage 2-1/8" button from French chef Jacques Pepin's 1970s Fifth Avenue Manhattan eatery, "Think Soup; La Potagerie"Jacques Pépin ( French pronunciation: [ʒak pepɛ̃] ; born December 18, 1935) [1] is an internationally recognized French chef , television personality, and author working in the United States. Since the late 1980s, he has appeared on French and American television and written an array of cookbooks that have become best sellers.Early years [ edit ]Pépin, the second of three sons, was born in 1935 in Bourg-en-Bresse , near Lyon in France . [1] After World War II , his parents, Jeannette and Jean-Victor Pépin, owned the restaurant, Le Pélican, where Pépin worked and later became known for his love for food. [1] He went on to work in Paris, training under Lucien Diat at the Plaza Athénée . From 1956 to 1958, during his military service, Pépin was the personal chef to three French heads of state, including Charles de Gaulle .
