The origin of the Sukajyan Souvenir Jacket is traced back to a single U.S serviceman who took his flight jacket to a local tailor in Yokosuka after World War II to have it embroidered with his name and decorated with colourful designs and images to monument his time spent in Japan. It became popular with other soldiers to bring back home to little brothers or sons as souvenirs. So popular that in the early 50’s they began selling souvenir jackets offered in different sizes and styles. By the 60’s there were various types and makers.
This authentic tailor Toto souvenir jacket features both a Tiger and Dragon ancient symbols of ying and Yang. One side of the jacket is a bold blue color with cream sleeves and embroidered with a Tiger and features Bonin white eye birds on the chest.
Made by the local tailor known as Tailor Toyo the original maker since it’s origin in WWII, still operates today. Souviner jackets such as these have been seen worn by celebs like Mick jagger and featured on the Louis Vuitton mens runway.
This particular satin jacket is authentic, rare and a woman’s size 0/2. It is believed to be a wife’s or sisters souvenir. This jacket is being sold as is and has imperfections including discoloration on the arms, stitch work needed on both under arms and stitch work needed throughout. It would need love from the hands of a good tailor to be worn or properly displayed.
