The tie can be adjusted....there's slack in the design to adjust to your waist. I never had an issue with my undergarments showing. [FYI....I would wear a 'skimmy' type of underpants, meaning boy short brief with a longer leg (Jockey is the manufacturer; helped to smooth pant line and is a light weight knit). This was my preference and comfort level; I like to wear slips under my dresses.]
