This necklace, featuring the Franz Kafka novella The Metamorphosis, has at its center a bronze pendant that combines the insect that Gregor Samsa morphs into with a bronze clock charm, garnished with silver skulls, for the lifetime Gregor (and many like him) have spent working, only to be cast aside once he can no longer earn and provide. To its right are mixed metal gear charms, for the industrialized Capitalist society Gregor is a faceless “cog” in, along with a book cover pendant. And to the left are 3 apple core charms, both for the cores that are thrown at Gregor that become lodged in his back, and to represent the garbage of the Samsa family, which after Gregor becomes an insect, he lets them get rid of by throwing it into his room.
