The Whale Fishery “Laying On”1852 Framed & Matted Lithograph Print by N. Currier

This Lithograph print by Nathaniel Currier is based on Garneray’s painting of the same name. It depicts the pursuit of the sperm whale, which is said to be one of the largest and fiercest of all of the whales. The large mountains echo the shape of the whales tail, and the rolling waves add to the drama. The original was oil based, and created in 1852. This particular print that I have had a wooden frame with a hanger in the back. The front is not glass, but some sort of partially tempered plastic material. There are some blemishes on the frame, which are shown in photos, but this in excellent condition overall.
