Thundereggs are formed in rhyolite lava flows. Air bubbles in the rhyolite become filled with water containing silica that eventually becomes chalcedony, agate, jasper, common opal or quartz. The colors come from other dissolved minerals in the silicate water.
This group consists of a Tavernier thunderegg from Hermanas, New Mexico, a Richardson moss bed thunderegg from central Oregon, a Killer Green egg from the Mill Creek Valley in the Ochoco Mountains of Oregon, and a Donnybrook egg from Ashwood, Oregon.
This one is completely special to me and has been for years due to the fact that I seek intricacies and I’ve always seen a rocking out purple unicorn!!!! 🦄 these eggs are hard to find and even harder for the scenic route like this 💜
