This post is all about lighting ๐Ÿ’ก When it comes to showcasing your items, lighting is key! So what's the best light? Overcast (white clouds covering most of the sky) is the best lighting for picture taking. This lighting typically has no color to it so it allows you to take pictures of your items that are true to color. Second best is clear skies, however make sure your items are not in direct sunlight, this will cause excess shadows and alter the color of your items (making a Purple item look Pink, for example) I personally like a little shadows in my pictures, I think it lets the buyer know that it's truly the item they are getting. Overcast or Clear skies: when taking pictures on these days; generally early morning (8-9am) or late afternoon (3-4pm) is ideal. (May vary depending on where you live and how your home is position in relation to the sun, these times are simply a guide) Be sure to angle blinds upward, this creates an overall even lighting. A white background will reflect the light and really make your items pop (I prefer foam core, but poster board will work just as well) Rainy or stormy days will produce a blue coloring over your items. This is a problem if you have a green jacket, the blue coloring will make it look more teal than green. Night time skies, may or may not work well. It all depends on what kind of lighting you have in your home. If you have regular old light bulbs then your images could look dark and have a yellow tint to them. If you have a lot of recessed lighting with white LED bulbs, it could give your items a blue tint to them. However, soft white bulbs (any kind, but LED is probably best) could get you just the right lighting. Not sure what you have? Take a picture of a plain white paper and see what the image looks like. If it looks different in the image than it does in real life, probably best to wait for natural lighting. Lastly, color rendering (how the color looks in image vs real life) will always depend on the screen someone is viewing the image. A iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy will show the same image differently. So the best we can do is try to get the image as close to the actual item as possible and give a good description of the item. kidzcloths626 @jmjla7 you are too kind! No I haven't gotten a HP yet, thanks for nominating me. I have checked with the list of prohibited items and I don't have anything on the list, did you see something in my closet that flagged as a concern to you? Or just being cautious? Thanks again ๐Ÿ’•

kidzcloths626 @shaynola On occasion if the natural light is casting too dark of a shadow I will turn lights on around the room but nothing too intense because then it starts to look odd. But judging from you images you are doing an awesome job. Your pictures look amazing. And thank you for the compliment
Jul 17Reply
shaynola
shaynola @kidzcloths626 Great info! Thanks for the compliment, too. Lighting just happens to be my biggest struggle. ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ
Jul 17Reply
kidzcloths626
kidzcloths626 @shaynola Thanks. I use my phone. I really don't have the time to use my camera and then photoshop each image (which is funny because I use photoshop a lot for work, maybe that's why, I get burnt out haha) I think lighting is everyone's issue, but we do our best to show the item as clearly as possible and then at some point we just have to be okay with the images. It's like a painting, it's never really done, we as artists just chose to stop painting. ๐Ÿ˜‰

dragonflybtq @kidzcloths626 I just downloaded snapseed so I'm going to play with it today! The way my house is positioned I get like no natural light at all so the best time for me to take pics is when everyone goes to bed & I set up in my kitchen. I bought natural light bulbs for my ceiling fan & set up shop there. I've found out that if I take them when my daughter is awake (5) I end up taking tons of pics of her!! Lol!
Apr 12Reply
kidzcloths626
kidzcloths626 @my3kidsark Haha, thats too funny. For the longest time my daughter was sad that I was "getting rid" of her clothes, but now shes figured out that she gets new ones! haha. KIDS! haha Thats great, all the lighting is my house is incandescent (traditional light bulbs), But I have a sensitivity to light, so I need a dimmer light in my house. I use the Selective tool on the just the background. I found some really helpful Youtube tutorials that showed how to use the app.
Apr 12Reply
dragonflybtq
dragonflybtq @kidzcloths626 I was just going to ask you what to use to lighten the background! For some unknown reason I always forget about YouTube!! Maybe bcuz my kids always want to be on it? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ
Apr 12Reply
kidzcloths626
kidzcloths626 @my3kidsark hahaha mine too! YouTube is my classroom, whenever I want to learn something I know there is always someone on there willing to teach it. I donโ€™t know how we survived growing up without it! Hahaha
Apr 12Reply
dragonflybtq
dragonflybtq @kidzcloths626 Hi!! I'm taking pics using the foam board & when I go on Snapseed to brighten the background the lines from the board aren't going away. โ˜น Am I missing a step?
Apr 20Reply
kidzcloths626
kidzcloths626 @my3kidsark if the selective tool isnโ€™t taking away the lines, you can use the healing tool as well. But be careful to not get too close to the actual item or it will duplicate part of your item. If you want to post the item (mark it not for sale) and tag me so I can see the lines, id be able to help better.
