Vintage Native American Knifewing Bracelet. Intriguing copper panel-link bracelet depicts the Zuni Knifewing spirit god. Knifewing is the ulitmate warrior and is represented as half human/half eagle, with razor sharp flint knife-feathered wings and tail. His dress consists of a terraced cap (representative of clouds, where he dwells). His weapons are the Great Flint-Knife of War, the Bow of the Skies (the Rainbow), and the Arrow of Lightning. The duality of the Warrior Spirit is reflected by the use of copper, which has healing qualities. Bracelet comprises 7 rectangular copper links, articulated double links and a fold over clasp. 7.5" long. The patina is what you would expect for it's age, but can easily be brightened with polish. This bracelet is fabulous with jeans & southwestern styles and appropriate for both women & men.
Purchased in 1962 at the Oshkosh Trading Post, which was owned by the late, great and last Menominee Chief, Roy Oshkosh. Ahead of his time, the Chief "imported" many items for his trading post from other tribes to help the ecomonic development of all Native Peoples.
Chief, ๐๐๐, my hero.
