As a supervisor for the USPS, I care about your packages regardless if you're sending them or receiving them. My suggestion is to make sure you have the carrier scan the package in front of you or have the window clerk give you a receipt. It's best to schedule a pickup because it's trackable right then and there. πβ€οΈπ«πͺπ¦π¬

This is so true unfortunately my PO refuses to scan my items as they claim they are prepaid and just won't scan. Sometimes it happens that I ship but the item is not scanned so it doesn't show shipped until the buyer receives. I can't schedule pick up because I have a weird work schedule but so far I haven't had many issues with this hopefully it will stay that way but I can totally relate to the frustration when people don't ship in a timely manner. π

@naturelover contact 1-800-275-8777 if you ask for it to be scanned, they must scan it. Schedule a pickup at usps.com

You can have it picked up anywhere. If you have a secure location like a porch etc. leave the information on the website as to where you want the package picked up from @naturelover

This is very useful information!! Some people don't know it but it's way more secure to watch the mail carrier or the person at the window scan that package in with your own two eyes....it's the only way to be certain about tracking! It is SO much more secure than dropping it in a box. And since you guys will come pick it up... What's easier than that? Y'all really do an amazing job at such an enormous task! β€οΈπβ€οΈ

I have them scan my package and give me a receipt at my local P.O. However, it doesn't show accepted or tracking info until it gets to the sorting center 90 miles away. So frustrating! The local office says it's the way the system works.

@katz2 If they use an IMD/manual scanner, it will show up in minutes.

Danielle, sounds like my local office does not have one. We are a small town, so perhaps that is why.

Thank you for all the useful info. My post office is a hub, and i generally drop it in the slot in the back of the building before they open, what confuses me is why it takes 24-48 hours to show it has been scannedπ‘. Ugh, USPS makes me want to swear!! But thank you for letting me know they will do a pickup I may get a covered porch box to leave my packages in from here on out and just let them pick them up.

danie8280
@hollylilly Anytime! They are required to scan when they pickup because this goes back to the District, if they don't.

That's a grateful idea.....but our post office won't do that...they tell you that it gets done later by the supervisor ONLY. When I drop off my packages it takes literally all day to be scanned...it messes my shipping time up...

Ah you're with USPS... y'all are my bread & butter! Lifesavers! I always either schedule a pickup from my front porch or I drop it off and have it scanned with a receipt on the spot. I'm lucky we have an amazing team at my local PO. My packages usually take a few hours to update online after I see them scanned but I guess that's just how the system works. Either way, super props to all the USPS folks for making businesses run smoothly on the daily! π
