1890-1900, Antique, French Jet, Steel, 9" Long, Victorian Hatpin. The French Jet topper measures 1 1/16" in diameter x 3/16" deep and has an undulating, three-section design with tiny pinprick swirls along the three bars. Long, slender steel pin portion is glued securely to the black topper. Very good condition for 120+ years. A few tiny fleabites to side of French Jet Topper and an uneven Topper connection to long steel pin. Both are not visible unless you magnify or purposely look. These minute flaws do not affect wearability but are reflected in the asking price. I just love these hatpins of a long-ago era and the stories that go with them. An ingenious device used by the Suffragettes! An excellent self-defense tool but in some cities length was kept to a minimum to not create an accidental hazard.
