A wonderful pair of Bradley and Hubbard bookends in a very classic design. This pair is a great example of fine craftsmanship. They are in fine vintage condition with no cracks, or other issues. They measure 4” high, just under 5” wide, and 2' deep. They would look impressive on any bookcase or book shelf. (Copy of "Ulysses" not included.)
Bradley and Hubbard were called “Masters of Metalworks”. They started producing clocks during the Civil War. Through the 1850' and 1860's they added other lines of household goods. In 1859, with the discovery of oil in Titusville, Pa., they began making kerosene burning lamps. In the 1920's and 1930's they produced a line of outstanding bronzed cast iron bookends from molten iron poured into sand molds. These bookends are extremely popular with collectors. Some of their bookends are included in the Castle Collection at the Smithsonian Institution. B & H bookends are noted for their heavy weight, fine finish and excellent detail.
