I give you much respect for being a strong mom raising two teenage boys! And I see myself complaining raising three year old girl!!! I pray for your health and your boys. Oh my gosh! I grew up on Grand Ave and went to PS 33 (great then, but now horrible and notorious bc there was an attempted abduction of a child right in from of the school a few wks ago!), then went to JHS 115 (EBB - Elizabeth Barrett Browning JHS, an all girls JHS, which we called Everything But Boys) moved to Queens, but my friends went to Walton, Clinton, or Bronx HS of Science. I have to ask if my mom went to Morris- She was a Bronxite too! But she's a lot older than your mom. She is 93 1/2. My husband went to Bayside HS and lived in Little Neck. (I don't know how we ended up in NJ- I really like LI so much better.) Anyway pls excuse my ramblings- I was just excited to find a kindred soul here. I'm really not looking to buy-just want to purge my overstuffed closets!

When we were in Queens as a teenager we lived in Whitestone & I went to Flushing HS; my mom is still in Flushing. When we were first married, we lived in Forest Hills.

@maidmarian Hi again. My husband went to JHS 67 - Louis Pasteur JHS. We're a little older than you. I am 63 and graduated from college in '70 (SUNY at Stony Brook). I was thinking about you today, and realized how young your boys were when your husband passed away - How difficult it must have been! Is your older son in college yet? Where does he go? They look like great kids; you should be very proud of yourself!

@maidmarian Oh my gosh! So funny that your mother's name is Ellen too! Did your son, Jared, take that year long course in which you get college credit after you graduate from hs? My neighbor's son did that too. My older daughter went to Tufts and then took a semester abroad @ Hebrew U. This was before the intifada (the first one). She remains friends with a lot of Israelis to this day, and she is 33! She travels back and forth kind of regularly. (But we also have family in Israel as well-I have 2 cousins who made aliyah many years ago.) My younger daughter attended American but wasn't able to go abroad to Israel bc by that time, it was too dangerous, so she went to London instead for her semester abroad. That is great about your son, Adam! His wrestling may help him get a scholarship to college! Again, I may be repeating myself- you have so much to be proud of! You have done a wonderful job! (By the way, have you had much success on Poshmark? I sold a few things, but I've noticed that you really have to practically give things away, and it's hard to sell the higher priced items here bc in order to get a good price, you have to mark them up a lot bc of the commission. I wish Poshmark took a commission on a sliding scale basis.)

Hi @maidmarian I just remembered my old "hood," and where Morris Ave was. In my neighborhood, Jerome Ave (where my elementary school was located) was a sort of a dividing line. My street, Grand Ave, was on one side of Jerome Ave, and Morris Ave was on the other side. They were all parallel to each other. Most of the Jewish people lived on the Morris Ave side, but we didn't. (After WW II, my parents, like many others, had difficulty getting an apt, so you took whatever you could get.) My mother tells me that Morris Ave was a very long street, so I don't know if your mom lived anywhere near me. I was near Fordham Rd, and not too far from the Grand Concourse, and of course the fabulous Loew's Paradise movie theater (which, as any true Bronxite knows, is pronounced "low-ees" and not "lows")!!!!

@elkie1115 Same to you and yours. My cousin passed away this morning. The irony. My husband died on Yom Kippur and Alan on Rosh Hashanah. Same age same nasty cancer, just 7 years apart. So sad. Statistically a disproportionate number of people die around the holidays.

After a lot of back and forth, we decided to go to a restaurant with my mother -- easier than carting food to her and doing it in her small apartment😁. My girls and their husbands won't be with us, but we'll be with my mom, my brother and sister-in-law (who is also named Ellen, so she has my maiden name!), and two of their three children.

@luvbucs28 Aw Karen that's hurtful but probably not intentional. Try to let go of the hurt and take the high road, put a smile on your face and pray for her husband's anxiety not to get in the way. Sounds corny as can be but I've learned to pray for people that hurt me so they may have the peace i want for myself. And the baby! All that matters now. You'll be an awesome grandma!

@luvbucs28 For what it's worth my husband's family doesn't talk to me (I have so much power I gave him Cancer?) and my sister's husband doesn't like me - everyone's got their shtick! PM therapist lol! Too funny. I just love meeting new people and anyone that's been through a lot comes out stronger and I do believe in sharing tips on staying strong! Thats all. BTW did I mention the time I was so enraged after a phone call at work that I threw the phone; it felt so good I closed my office door and continued smashing it to smithereens! Good think I'm friendly with the phone guy or it woulda been humiliating AND expensive! Short term relief but it shore felt good! So I relate about the IPhone - hope you have insurance! I was in a coma but I could hear people talking to me & about me. My husband begged me to press on don't die on me. Then when I made it the doctors all 12 of them wanted to put me on S.sd. When I told him he said " f... that if I have to get up & go to work so do you". It's hard enough to take care of myself physically & finically I can't image with 2 children plus myself omg. I was watching @ katef she had a necklace for sale in it. It was the only item at the time available to buy and it sat there for over two weeks. I know this cuz I would share it everyday. She has 2.1 Million followers. Sometimes we get into a slump. And it feels like we won't do any better and we want to just quit. But we know that it can get better. I'm sorry to hear about the shoes... The seller may have thought they were a sold out item, making them rare? I don't know. I do agree that it's not cool to take an item that you can buy at your local department store and jack up the price by a thousand percent! Unbelievable! I've seen necklaces on here that I can make and sell for a profit at a lower price, where as they're selling at 4-5 times as much! I feel sorry for whoever gets suckered into that. You know you just want to say hey don't fall for that! But it's rude to do that in someone else's closet.

Your Pookie reminds me of my Maddie, she's my first dog, she is the best companion after my kids started leaving home. My friend made me a sign that says "Love is being owned by a Shih tzu", because she saw how my little one has stole my heart and pretty much runs our home, Lol!

Hi Marian, love your post. So sorry about your husband. Mine was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, but after multiple radiation, chemo, and two surgeries, he is fine now. Bless you for having to go on alone, but you did it. Women are so strong! I love Pookie, she is a little doll. I had a shizoodle for almost 17 years, and loved her so much. She also was bossy! Now we have just one, a little Cocker Spaniel. She is the 3rd Cocker we have had and I am so in love with dogs!

I guess the grass is always greener. I got sucked into corporate law and can't do that and be the mom I want to be. Should have done child advocacy. I just finished a 40 hr training for CASA- Court Appointed Special Advocates for kids in foster care or in need of assistance. I've done it before but years ago and in Texas so I had to do the training again. I actually feel as the social worker or volunteer you do more for people than as the lawyer. I truly believe in coming from a strength based perspective. My son goes to a special needs school and we have family meeting every week. One of the counselors is very old school and I am always interrupting to focus on what was positive about that week no matter what kid we are talking about. Working on solutions. Sorry I am rambling. 😘😘

Which is a lot, my older son was the next best thing but his life got way busier, he's talking about getting an apartment closet to school, then poor dog will be alone. If I leave her in the yard she'll escape to a neighbors where she'll get lotsa loving!

marian..First let me say, you are AWESOME!! so sorry about your dad..hugs!..so many people ask me how I am doing since I am a breast cancer patient, but hardly anyone ever asks my husband how he is doing...So Dear Marian, how are you doing? You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Marian, I also lost my loving mother in oct. at age 89..she was awesome lady...lost a brother last summer , heart attack while mowing his lawn.and a sister 2 Christmas's ago to liver failure...o.k. Prayer DOES help, my church family is there for me and my husband is the best (30 years married past Dec.) but I needed more.....sooo.. took my egg timer in my bedroom, set timer to 3 minutes, locked the door...had a hugh pity party, I mean I cried, sobbed, wailed, why me..got mad at GOD (yes he understands and can take it...smile) used every cuss word I could think of...threw things (unbreakables) like scarves and my whole sock drawer...timer went off..I took a deep breath picked up the socks, wiped my eyes...left the room,..My husband said "your 3 minute eggs are ready, you must be hungry" I laughed till I was crying again, but tears of joy and the relief OR release I felt awesome...hope you try is...hugs to you and much love and healing to you and your boys..Diana p.s. i hate eggs!!!!

I'll have to look into Clearwater! I was telling my boyfriend about it, and I am shocked that he wasn't familiar with it. We also love the Dead and their cover bands! As for my love of social work...I got pretty burned out. I was working on the adolescent unit at a psychiatric hospital 12 hr plus shifts. I broke my jaw in a bicycle accident and went on a leave of absence for a over a year and still have not returned. There were several days that I just wanted to clock-out and walk straight to admissions=)

LOL I didn't wanna admit to someone I don't know that I'm HATING it! 34 years! in the middle of the most grueling DOH inspection ever! I run 3 departments without the tools and resources I need to be successful, so for the first time in my career, it looks like my department will be responsible for 1 or more citations. I'm DONE. What a beautiful family! I'm truly sorry for your loss. My uncle & my boyfriend's father passed away from pancreatic cancer. It's such a hard thing to go through so I can just imagine. This PM thing is also helping me to cope, get distracted just been going through a lot with life. This PM is also getting my sister (my beautiful model) and I closer too. I'm also a social worker of almost 20 years. I work with seniors doing care mgmt. So I admire what you do now it's time for us to cleanse, detox & take care of ourselves. Hi Marian! Just stopped by to share and thought I would pop in and read aboout you. I am so sorry to hear about your husband and your father. My husband had a heart attack in 2012 and nearly died. He has a rare blood disorder that we knew nothing about. He was the picture of health. I got a glimpse of the fear of a life without him and I can't imagine your heartache. I know we must go on in the midst of such hardships and tragedies, but knowing you have a support system of family and friends makes it easier. I know we just met but, if you ever need to talk, please just let me know. We can arrange for that to happen for sure. An email is an easy thing to exchange ☺. My dad has stage 4 Prostate cancer and my mom just had a mastectomy, Stage 2. Cancer sux. I do know that God puts ppl in your life for a reason. If you ever need anything, just let me know. God bless my Posh share buddy.

OMG My Maine Coon cat is named pookie. She was the foster with a differe name she was so sweet the I knew when my husband changed her name to pookie she was mine. She is a chill cat even dog lovets like her. I have two stepsons. They are about the same age just a couple of years older. I had to get iCPS involved because of the way she treated her younger son. . She is on their list in two states to monitor over contrling ways. Just to give you an idea.She snt the youngest son to visit right before child support ran out. She didn't tell any of us he was going to live with us. Crazy lady...he was so hurt.

@hila808 So my dad died in September in the NH I work in. My moms having surgery. Late husbands family stole $, sued and dis- owned me, my job is killing me and Im struggling. Not used to struggling! I'm one of 4 kids but I'm the ONE of the 4! No time for a POSH addiction.

Ooh you are so right on that. I don't know how some poshers are able to just posh & not have another full time job. I feel bad when we are all lowering our prices for those lower shipping but at the end it seems like the sellers lose out. No Bueno. 😞
