VIVARINI MURANO BATTUTI SMALL DRINKING GLASSES - SET OF 4 *Rare**
Murano Battuti Drinking Glasses. The VIVARINI objects originate in Murano from the blow and the hand of the man who makes each piece a unique and unrepeatable masterpiece. These are made in Venice, Italy.
The Vivarini family were Murano glass artisans in the 15th century, while battuto is a glass surface technique developed by Carlo Scarpa in the 1940s.
Battuto is a glass surface technique that imitates hammered branches.
Carlo Scarpa was the first to design a series of battuto items in the 1940s.
Scarpa's designs were inspired by hammered silver and ancient stone carving techniques and exhibited in 1940 at the 22nd Venice Biennale. Tobia Scarpa, Carlo's son, designed a series of battuto items in the late 1950s.
