Van Cleef & Arpels Leather Covered Brass Monocular Spyglass

This monocular was created especially for the launch of Van Cleef & Arpels "Les Voyages Extraordinaires" Collection. Illustrious poets were chosen such as Jules Verne and William Shakespeare, to name a few who would have some of their most admirable works conveyed into works of jeweled art. As an example, "A Midsummer Nights Dream" was brought to life in jewelry form with delicate fairies and nymphs with invisible set sapphire skirts and delicate wings of gold. Another option was a fairy that sat in the center of a wristwatch and told the time with her star tipped wand as each hour ticked by. The reasoning for the spyglass was to show all of us buyers what was in store as we "voyaged to the extraordinary places" they would take us that year. The spyglass actually works. It is created of brass with a leather wrapping that has been beautifully stitched up one side in an X pattern. The opposite side is embossed with a hot air balloon with the Van Cleef & Arpels logo hanging where a basket would normally be. The logo is a VCA with the Columne De Vendome between the V and C in a 4 point diamond lozenge. The total length of the spyglass closed is 7" closed and 18" fully expanded. Even if you do not use it for its intended purpose, it makes for wonderful display in a seaside home or any nautical display.
