Victorian Collar Box - Wood with Celluloid Covering: Woman Smelling Violets

Violets! This antique collar box is perfect as a little storage box and to show off on your desk, vanity, or dresser table top. The box's top and all sides are graced with a celluloid (the first kind of 'plastic') covering of lovely purple and white violets against their green leaves. The top is graced with a beautiful woman dressed in Victorian garb...her hair upswept and decorated with a Victorian hairclip. And she's smelling a handful of violets. Notice the metal hinges on exterior and linen hinges on the interior, and the metal front clasp, all which are intact and working perfectly. Given its age, this piece has some wear to it, especially along the edges of the top and sides, and corners. Also, notice the pockmark on the top located on the woman's neck. These blemishes are to be expected and only add to this piece's charm and beauty. Purchased in Ogunquit, Maine, many years ago - see tag attached - "Old Victorian Collar Box - $95".
