Victorian flow blue and white porcelain salad or dessert plate made by W.H. Grindley Portman, c1891. 8” diameter. Nice vintage condition. There are normal manufacturing flaws such as kiln marks, peppering of blue or bleeding of cobalt enamel. No lines, stains, chips or significant defects. W.H. Grindley Co was an English Pottery Company that made earthenware and ironstone tableware including Flow Blue. The company was founded in 1880 by William Harry Grindley, of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England.
This pattern named "Portman" is a beautiful Flow Blue on white semi-porcelain and has a floral embossed scalloped band with a beaded edge and raised floral designs next to the beading and semi-circular embossed designs on the inner ring. Deep cobalt blue scrolls, with flowers and leaves designs around the band. This pattern dates to 1891-1914.
