The company was founded in 1880 by William Harry Grindley, of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, England. This pattern named "Portman" is a beautiful Flow Blue on white semi-porcelain and has a floral embossed scalloped band with a beaded edge and raised floral designs next to the beading and semi-circular embossed designs on the inner ring. Deep cobalt blue scrolls, with flowers and leaves designs around the band. This pattern dates to 1891-1914.
