This style glove is on exhibit at the civil war museum in Kennesaw GA, that is where I learned they were actually mourning gloves- worn when a soldier (or Anyone I suppose) was killed to the funeral and days after. The clutch is made of a twill type fabric on the outside with gold thread woven in, The interior is a soft bit very durable fabric, My guess is it was only carried once and was storage for the gloves.
