Vieux Paris Porcelain Hand Painted Gilded Small Pitcher Large Coffee Creamer Milk Jug, 19th Century France.
Charming Antique French milk jug: hand painted on porcelain by Old Paris Porcelain: a broad term for porcelain made in Paris from the early 1700s to the 1870s, which created some of the finest porcelain in the world. Beloved by French aristocrats and royalty, most notably Marie Antoinette. This piece is estimated to date from the mid-19th C, circa 1840s - 1860s.
From its graceful handle to the exquisite pattern, this elegant handled jug epitomizes the Vieux Paris aesthetic. Hand painted with deep blue leaves peppered with orange buds, there are also some remnants of the gold leaf gilt banding. Unmarked, as was most 19th Vieux Paris porcelain.
SIZE: Measures about 6” tall x
3 3/4” wide (spout to handle width is 5 1/4”) x 2 3/4” deep.
CONDITION: Very good structural condition free of chips, cracks or repairs. Some crazing on underside. Significant wear on gold leaf decoration, as consistent with age.
