Imagine, if you will, that this is your Uncle Rufus (actually, he's your great uncle but everyone called him uncle). He once ran for mayor and lost by a mear 5 votes. He asked for, but didn't get a recount. He challenged the winner to a fistfight with the winner becoming the next mayor. But he settled for being a constable and swore he'd run for mayor again, which he never did. He loved his position as constable and remained in that position until he died of consumption at 92 years old. On the front of this postcard, he has papers to be served and I bet he served them all that day. He always dressed up to do his duty. On the back of the postcard, you'll notice that there is no dividing line. That indicates that the photo was likely taken between 1900 and 1907. And the AZO rectangle is common for the age, and the 2 arrows pointing up and 2 arrows pointing down also indicates the era. The postcard is in great condition and this story was thrown in at no extra charge.
