Vintage 1934 Berkeley, University of California, acceptance letter to a lady named Margaret Nelson. The letter includes the acceptance letter, letter from the office of the dean of women, the circular for new students pamphlet, and insert of information for rushee and statement as to late admission and registration. It comes with the original envelope with university of California, Director of admissions return address and includes two collectible two-cent George Washington stamps. Very nice and historical set. Important for students of women’s studies, feminism, right to vote and history of higher education for women. Important memorabilia that must be preserved.
Size: Standard envelope, paper and pamphlet sizes.
Condition: Very good distant vintage condition. Papers are crisp and with bright and legible type. The pamphlets and inserts are of a muted blue and the paper has yellowed. Someone wrote their grocery list on the envelope- milk, lamb chops… which puts a wry layer to this official document and perhaps begs commentary as to whether or not “Miss Margaret” actually did go to university and still had to cook. Or did lamb chops take precedence over intellectual pursuits? Ninety years later, are we still the domestic servants with a college degree?
