One prior owner, rarely worn.
features a domed porcelain scene of a waterfront, windmill and house, typical of Delftware/Delft blue/Delfts. Bordered in sterling silver with a pin clasp. Classic blue and white pattern.
Every single one of these pins is unique & handpainted by local artisans in Holland. These iconic windmill scenes in blue and white are immediately recognizable as Delfts.
About DELFTS: After World War II, as Holland was rebuilding their infrastructure, many refugee artisans & craftsmen from Eastern Europe found their skills in demand.
But as the rebuilding process slowed, many artisans found their jobs disappearing. However, they also discovered that American soldiers were returning to Europe to show their wives the places they had seen during the war.
The Dutch found that they could solve the problem of too many artisans, but two few jobs by taking advantage of the new tourism industry. They began creating items specifically for the tourist trade… like these pins that are evocative of Dutch life.
DIMENSIONS: about 7/8” diameter
