Vintage 1956 softcover design booklet entitled “Bulgarian Embroideries” by DMC Library. Editions Th. de Dillmont. Printed by Dollfus-Mieg & Cie. Mulhouse France. Printed in France. The text is in English. “The colored embroideries ornamenting the lingerie and costumes of Bulgarians mark their pronounced taste for polychromic decoration. Bulgarian national costume, basically composed of strong, hand-woven linen, lends itself particularly well to this sort of embellishment. As the 88 models on our 16 plates show, Bulgarian embroideries are a varied types, distinguished one from another as much by the design, as by the use of stitches and choice of shades.” Illustrated with diagrams and color photo plates showing border patterns and designs for counted thread embroidery using Dollfus-Mieg & Cie (DMC) cotton, flax, silk or rayon threads. Condition is used. The front and back covers and spine have overall wear including light creasing, staining spots and edge wear. The spine has loss of surface material.
