HISTORY
Margaret J, is short for Margaret Jerrold which was a design house started in the late forties by husband and wife team Margaret Clark and Jerrold Miller. Margaret designed beautiful, fashion forward shoes that had a “medium” heel at a time when shoes were either totally flat or high heels. So she filled a need but did it in a way that was artful and fashion forward. This re-imagination of the medium size heel with a chunky bottom catapulted Margaret’s (and Jerrys) career and their shoes started showing up everywhere from runways in Paris, to subways in NYC. Bottom line; Women wanted these shoes!
Margaret became ill at the end of the 60s and stopped designing shoes herself but the company still thrived. Jerry went on to wrote a book, “The Wandering Shoe” about their experiences in the shoe world, fashion industry, marriage and company. Margaret passed in 1994.
