Hi! For sale is a Vintage 1960s Womens Black Crushed Velvet Coat by Lassie. The coat appears to be satin-lined and still has all of the original buttons. It features two hip pockets with the same lining on their interior and what appears to be faux leather trim on their exterior.
The coat has a 36 to 37-inch bust and a 36-inch waist. The coat measures 40 inches in total length, 18.5 inches from pit-to-pit, and the sleeves measure 22 inches in length from the outside shoulder to the bottom of the cuff. These measurements suggest that the coat would fit like a MODERN SIZE SMALL to MEDIUM.
My late grandmother bought this coat back in the 60s as a young woman from the Ames & Brownley department store in Norfolk, Virginia. Since that time, it has been carefully stored in a climate-controlled closet.
Accordingly, it is in VERY GOOD condition for its age, with NO visible holes, rips, stains, fading, or discoloration. There is evidence that it may be missing a tag on the interior of the right lapel, but the main "Lassie" maker's tag is intact and in nice shape, as well as the "Ames & Brownley" retailer tag. Along the interior seam, it also has the official International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) tag, indicating it was union-made, as many womens dresses and specialty clothing were at that time. All of the original buttons are intact and still attached, including the cuff buttons, although the threading has become loose on most of them. (SEE PICTURES for details).
