Vintage 1970s Viners 'Shape' Stainless Steel Table Spoons Set of 3 & 2 Misshape

This vintage set of table spoons is marked, 'Viners International Stainless Steel Empire on the back of the spoons shafts, and SHAPE on the back of the handle. 3 of these spoons are in good condition, 2 of them are misshapen and with pattern fading. Each item has a length of 8''.

Viners 'Shape' is forged from 18/8 stainless steel. The cutlery has a very distinctive retro handle, with the pattern picked out in black. The handles have a satin finish, front and back, while the bowls are mirror polished. This range of cutlery is typically stamped EMPIRE. 'Shape' was designed by Gerald Benney. A fine Goldsmith, Benney was born in Hull in 1930 and went on to study at Brighton College of Art between 1946-8 where his father was Principal. After studying at the Royal College of Art between 1950-53. Benney became Professor of Silversmithing and Jewellery from 1974 to 1983 and was Consultant Designer to Viners of Sheffield throughout the 1960's.
