Beautiful skirt from my great grandmother. She said she bought it in New York city, and only wore it twice, because "the black wasn't enough color for a woman of color like me" size says 16, but fits more of a modern 12/14

Hi! Do you have measurements? Is it elastic waisted or is there a zipper? Are there pockets?
lilliescoffee
@ande9308 it's an elastic waist, but it doesnt stretch too much! I'll be glad to give measurements as soon as I find it. but it's a solid 12/14 size for reference right now. :)

I love the history of your grandmother and this piece ; ). It's why I love vintage. Your grandmother sounds darling! FYI, based on the elasticized waist, the font of the tag, fabric content and the fact that how-to fabric content labels weren't seen in clothing until 1970's and later, I'd date this skirt more likely late 70's/early 80's (hello polyester) does 1950's. The more you know! More fun reading: https://sammydvintage.com/vintage-style/vintage-clothing-label-tags/

@drretro ahh awesome!!! Thank you

You're welcome. I'm such a nerd for all this stuff and love the hunt, especially if there's a good story behind the piece. : )*)

@drretro where were you when I donated some of her clothes to a theatre company 😂😂😂 no but really that’s awesome!
drretro
Oh noooo but also, I'm sure they really appreciated it. Lol. Also, I managed to find a 1950's large brim straw summer hat from a local theatre company who was selling off some of their lot at a yard sale/fundraiser a few years ago. So these items still manage to find their way to collectors of vintage fashion who love the history. ; )
