Up Scope! is a simulation game published by Simulation Publications Inc. (SPI) in 1977 for Apple II and Commodore PET platforms. The game simulates submarine combat during World War II in the Pacific theater.
The game is played from a top-down perspective, with the player controlling a US submarine in search of Japanese shipping convoys. The player must maneuver the submarine, plot courses, and use sonar to detect enemy ships. Once a convoy is located, the player must decide on the best strategy to engage the enemy, whether to surface and use deck guns, launch torpedoes from periscope depth, or launch homing torpedoes from deeper depths.
The game features realistic mechanics, including fatigue management for the crew, damage control procedures, and the ability to upgrade the submarine's weaponry and equipment. The game also includes a strategic layer where the player must manage their resources and make decisions on where to patrol and which convoys to engage.
Overall, Up Scope! is a challenging and immersive simulation game that accurately captures the tension and excitement of submarine warfare during World War II.
