Gorgeous vintage Modernist earrings from the Mid-century. These are articulated fish tail design - the "scales" are movable. They have a deep burnished copper finish. Unsigned Rebajes. Historic Mid-century Art to Wear Pieces.
Rebajes jewelry is associated with Francisco Torres - later Frank Rebajes - an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, who attained prominence in the New York Jewelry scene. His well-known lines of copper jewelry were popular from the late 1930's through the 1950's, & his work is notable for its connection to Mid-century Modern Art & its commercial success on 5th Avenue. Francisco Rebajes was a brilliant sculptor & jewelry designer. After being discovered by the then director of the Whitney Museum, he established a shop in Greenwich Village. All of his jewelry was handmade. His pieces have been exhibited in museums & galleries around the world. His shop was sold to longtime associate & artist in his own right, Otto Bade In 1960.
Research shows a matching necklace was made, but this listing is for the earrings only. (Perhaps you already have the necklace? Or have lost an earring?)
Approximately 1” long. Fully functional screw backs.
