Wearable art with a long history…
This scarf comes from vintage brand Whitley Willows of Huddersfield, UK, a picturesque region of Yorkshire known for generations for its quality textile mills. The Whitley Willows Mill dates back to 1780, initially founded as a "tumming mill," an early stage in the cloth-making process of detangling woollen fleece and teasing the fibers into strands that could then be spun. Whitley Willows specialized in women's fashion accessories and introduced mohair into their Neckwear Collection in the early 1970s. Mohair/wool blend plaid scarves became a popular trend -- see the cover of Vogue UK from 1975!
This scarf is a popular plaid pattern of ethereal pastels in colors of pink, gray, and blue. It's a loose knit fringed scarf, lightweight but warm, made of 62% mohair/38% wool blend. The scarf measures 9" wide and 54" long, not including fringe. In excellent condition and a beautiful staple for your vintage wardrobe.
