They just don't last or stand up to the older ones as can be seen by the condition these are in after over 40+ years. I put a little heel pad in them to fit me better but those are easily removed. Although I've admired them for years I never really wore them much but I have kept them moisturized and polished and the thick leather soles have plenty of life left in them but can still be re-crafted by Allen Edmonds if you send them in These have a sturdy Good Year Welt construction
