Vintage Black Textured Fabric Dress

Beautiful dress with heavily textured fabric. Winter weight. Round collar. Long sleeves. Back zipper closure. 25" waist measurement. Excellent condition. No visible tears or stains. PS - I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to identify this fabric. My mom, who has sewn all her life, recognizes that it's something older, which I already know, but we can't identify the particular process.
