Vintage Bloomingdale’s Silk Cumberbund Dress

I have to confess that I wasn’t initially wowed by this dress. It seemed pretty humdrum on the hanger. However, once she was clean and ironed and put on the mannequin, she really came alive! Now I’m a little bit in love. I thought she was pretty plain, but she actually has several interesting details. The cumberbund wraps around the back and buttons in place, to really emphasize a trim waist. The split sleeve detail is really beautiful. It gives visual interest and softness to the silhouette, well as keeping the sleeves from being tight and uncomfortable. There is one small issue to note: There is an area on sleeve where the material has pulled away from the cuff. Someone who is skilled could probably repair this quite easily. I, sadly, am not. She’s really quite a stunner, despite her modest style! W: 14 in. B: 15 in. (But very blousy, so a bit more roomy than measurement suggests) H: 19 in. Length from waist: 26 in. Length from hollow: 40 in.
