Vintage Woven Tribal Sumac Chuval Rug Bag Handwoven Fertility and Protection Motifs A beautiful and unique vintage piece! This chuval (a bag that hung from the walls of nomadic tribe's tents or yurts to hold their belongings) is handwoven and measures 46" long by 28" wide. Good vintage condition - no rips, tears or stains. Colors are vibrant. There are a few loose threads and minor wear due to age and use. This would make a beautiful wall hanging or large decorative pillow. A perfect addition to any boho decor! It is woven in the Soumak style - "Soumak is a type of flat weave, somewhat resembling kilim, but with a stronger and thicker weave, a smooth front face and a ragged back, where kilim is smooth on both sides." These pieces were traditionally woven using many different motifs with unique meanings. I am not an expert, but I did research the motifs and believe this chuval has several motifs for protection and fertility.
