Vintage Capelet Style Coat Black Velvet & Crepe

Fashionable vintage capelet style coat in black crushed velvet and crepe. This is a lightweight coat meant for special events. It has a deep but round neckline leading to the open front panels. There are no buttons or other closures. Perhaps a brooch at the neckline would add closure plus an extra note of glamour. The front has 3" wide crepe bands which proceed to the hem for a 4 1/2" band. The highlight is the floaty cape-like shoulders. The velvet transitions to two 4 1/2" ruffles in crepe for a total length of 18 1/2" from the natural shoulder. The coat does have armholes, but notably, they do not have a finished seam. The rest of the coat is lined. There is no maker label. We are unsure as to its date of production--has indications of the '20s/'30s, but could be as late as the '70s. Size: no size label. This is difficult to measure, so the following measurements are approximate and should be used as a general guide.
