Vintage Chanel Rhinestone & Glass Briolette Bib Style Collar by Louis Rousselet

Vintage Chanel rhinestone and glass briolette-style bead collar by Louis Rousselet. The length of this is similar to a choker, and then the glass elements hang down, about four inches or so at the center point. The faceted glass rhinestones have a light lavender undertone, and the pate de verre briolette or tear-drop beads are a darker wine-toned purple. This is an early unsigned piece from the days before Chanel marked their jewelry. Note: I had previously listed this as by Maison Gripoix because that’s how different iterations of it I had seen before were attributed, but Maison Rousselet has since informed me that this was actually by Louis Rousselet, so I’ve re-listed accordingly. Given that it’s by Rousselet, I think it’s likely this is from the 1930s, though I’m not certain of that. Rousselet did a series of bib work for Chanel in the ‘30s, and the art deco style of this piece is consistent with that era, but they produced jewelry for Chanel during other eras as well.
