This reversible midi-length tank dress is made with the lining material from men's suiting. Unconventionally elegant.
Golden medallion print on one side. Ruby red ombré on the other, with a border of gold print imperfectly wrapped into its hemline. Wrinkled, too.
This was my introduction to deconstructionist fashion c. 1996. In fact I bought two of these in different colors. At Charivari, the beloved store leading the charge for fashion's avant-garde on West 57th Street in NYC.
(Mine was a tame introduction; all the seams are finished.)
You can wad this dress in a ball and shove it your dresser drawer, then put it on, wrinkles and all. I really liked that option. Or wave a hand-held steamer on low heat over it.
This dress has been worn a few times at most. I can't promise how long the fabric will last, and I don't know the fiber. (Rayon/acetate, polyester?) I would avoid straining at the seams--so best to be a bit undersized for the dimensions. I hand washed it in the sink.
Nor is there a designer label. (If there ever was, I removed it). So I attribute it to Charivari.
