Vintage Chinese Sacai Glazed Pottery Figural Court Lady Musician, Reproduction Tang Dynasty
This Tang Dynasty style sancai glazed pottery figure of a court lady with instrument is quite lovely, and although it is circa 1980s, it does have an older look and great patina. Sancai was a three-colored glaze that was common during the late 7th Century to early 8th Century. Sancaiware has been called "egg and spinach" by Western collectors, due to that unique color combination of a yellow-brown and green. Sancai continued to be produced and could be found in Japanese ceramics as well as other East Asian countries. She measures 8-3/4" tall by 3-1/2" wide and 4" deep. This piece was purchased from an estate sale. It appears that her head broke off and has been reattached with some type of adhesive. It does appear to be a dated piece, I'm sure the adhesive that was used could be removed and reapplied for a cleaner look.
