Damascene is an engraving and enameling process where engraved metal is further ornamented with inlayed metal (silver and or gold) and black enamel. This unique vintage jewelry originated in the 1400's in Damascus - thus it's name. Furthermore, damascening creates intricate designs that parallel the Niello enameling seen in Thai jewelry.
