Vintage Double-Strand Navajo Coral and Turquoise Necklace

This beautiful and highly collectible vintage coral necklace came from Santo Domingo Pueblo in New Mexico and can be considered old pawn. Two strands of chunky red Mediterranean coral interspersed with turquoise nuggets is topped by brown shell heishi and a traditional squaw wrap. It measures a total of 30" and can easily slip over the head without the use of a clasp. The Southwestern Native Americans have prized and used Red Coral since the 1870’s. It is believed Red Coral maintains harmony in the heart, encourages peaceful feelings and inspires creativity. Red Coral can also be interpreted as a sign of wealth and status. Today quality Red Mediterranean Coral is very difficult to obtain. It is becoming more valuable and harder to find.
