Vintage- Early Doods (11 W 30 ST, INC.) Festive Enameled Wreath Brooch
Doods Jewelry Company was started in 1956 by William Doods, who also created "Jeweled Creations," a subsidary from the Arts and Crafts movement. They created kits that sold with swarovski crystals and other embellishments for people to make on their own.
They sold jewelry until the late 70s, which is when the company closed shop. The earlier pieces are signed with a raised stamp that reads "11 30 W ST, INC.," which is sometimes barely legible, and was the address of where they were located in NJ.
This is one of those early pieces that would be mistaken for an unsigned piece, but by using a piece of tissue paper and a pencil, I finally could read the raised stamped signature.
This beautiful example of their creations features a golden plated embossed, 3-dimensonal wreath made of holly leaves, some of which have green metalic enamel work. Sprinkled throughout the wreath are raised, red enamled holly bells. The central focus of the wreath is an embossed, enameled flame candle, which are all tied together with a red enamled bow.
This little candle really lights up the room! The pin on the back extends beyond the clasp and is in perfect working order. What a stunning way to brighten the holidays.
Dodds jewelry is not always easy to find, and is truly a collector's piece.
