This finely carved, wooden statue post 1940's of an Apsara dancer. She is wearing an ornate headdress with garland draped over her shoulders. Apsara dancing stems from Cambodia's Hindu and Buddhist mythology
The Apsara is a female spirit of clouds and water. She is a a messenger of peace between God’s and Kings. She dances to distract any powerful being from threatening peace with her beauty, charm, and fluidity of motion.
This statue is carved from hardwood and weighs a little over 2 pounds. A nicely detailed and symbolic piece of home decor!
Measurements - 16 1/4” in height. The base is 6 1/2” in length x 2” in width.
Condition - Overall, this vintage piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. One end of her garland is flat but appears to be part of the design and not a break. Her finish is shiny in some places and more matte in others, suggesting possible loss of finish
