* This is a very nice set of four pre-owned salad plates made by the "Fostoria Glass Company" of Moundsville, West Virginia sometime between 1934 and 1944. The Fostoria Company had been in business since 1887 starting in Fostoria, Ohio but by 1891 it had moved to Moundsville, West Virginia. Over the next couple of decades it would produce many lines of pressed patterned tableware and lamps. Their most famous pattern "American" was introduced in 1915 and was produced continuously until 1986 in well over two hundred different pieces. By the late 1930's they would be known as the largest producer of handmade glassware in the world and not to many years later the longest running company making it by hand and the only one left in USA. The company lasted until 1986. This pattern plate was in the "Morning Glory" pattern of etched glassware and Fostoria introduced it in 1934 and would produce it up until around 1944. This salad plate is 7 1/2" inches in diameter and the four are all different weights between 10.2 Ounces and 11.0 Ounces, all four together weigh 2 Lbs 9.8 Ounces. These would be great for replacing some needed in a set or starting the set and trying to find all of its pieces, or it would fit well into your collection of patterned glassware or it would make a beautiful gift for that special person you know.
