The Franciscan Desert Rose production began in 1941 by Gladding McBean and Co. in California. The simple, yet elegant design of the pattern was truly a trademark in the Early Californian era beginning in the 1940's. Unlike their English and Japanese competitors, the Desert Rose pattern was distinctly Western and the hand painted, slightly heavier ceramic made the The Desert Rose pattern truly unique. The Desert Rose pattern remained very popular and finally finished production in the USA around 1984.
