Authentic German beer stein I picked up at a vintage shop years ago. Stoneware body and pewter lid. Never used it for drinking, but have kept it as decoration on my bar to hold various little spoons and such. No longer use it so time for a new home! No chips, cracks, or signs of damage to the stein, just typical signs of wear like small chips in the paint, etc. you can observe in the pictures. Overall it’s a great piece, super sturdy and heavy.
Printed near the top is “Von Buwenburg” and below image shows Von Der Buwenburg, poet of the 13th century, plundering a herd. Comes from the Codex Manesse is a collection of love songs (minnesang) written in Middle High German by a variety of 140 or so contributors, or Minnesangers.
Under lid is marked D.B.G.M. representing the phrase Deutsches Bundes Gebrauchsmuster that translates roughly to German Federal Registered Design, name of the pewterer who manufactured the stein in Germany/sold in Germany. No other markings on the base or anywhere on the stein from what I note.
