Dimensions: 8" x 4.75" x 1.25" T This banded malachite, when cut and polished, reveals interesting, eye-pleasing, light to dark-green patterns that are unique to each piece. Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral with the chemical formula Cu2CO3(OH)2. It's formed when copper orebodies weather. Malachite is opaque and green-banded, and it crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system. It often forms in fractures and underground spaces as botryoidal, fibrous, or stalagmitic masses. Individual crystals are rare, but when they do occur, they are slender to acicular prisms. The last photo is not for sale...it is showing raw malachite. This piece is from the 1960's era.
