In the 70’s there was a demand for garments that were stylish, yet effortless. In these clothes, women could host parties and social gatherings and look fashionable, but still be able to move with ease and comfort. Enter, the hostess dress.
Hal Ferman was one of the first designers to offer mass produced garments that were more accessible and affordable than custom made clothing. His line was found in high end department stores like Bloomingdale’s and Saks. In later years they were more widely distributed and could be found in many mid-priced stores.
His brand existed until the 80’s. He died in 2016 at the age of 93.
This dress is made for a bigger body, which is not often found with vintage garments. So it’s an unusual find in that respect. The colors are quintessential 70s. This dress is clean and in perfect condition, ready for you to wear!
