Stamped Alcantara Malayana Philippines. Malayana, also stamped on the back, is a type of wood that is native to parts of Malaysia and Thailand. I have not found another statue exactly like this. There are a few scratches, dings, and a nail in one side of her head that sort of looks like an earring - 15.75” tall by 9” wide by 3.75” deep This is all I could find online about the artist: “Jose P. Alcantara (1911-2005) was a renowned Filipino sculptor, muralist, painter, inventor and businessman. Alcantara is remembered for his contributions to the rich and diverse Filipino art scene, and is known as one of the greatest sculptors that the country has ever produced. He began his career in art at the age of ten as an apprentice in a sculptural shop. He would go on to hone his craft over the course of his lifetime, and go on to win multiple prizes in competitions held by the Art Association of the Philippines, as well as various awards in the United States where he emigrated later in life.
