This lovely gown is a work of art - Fantastic Workmanship! Crocheted with a fine white cotton thread in tiny stitches, this is definitely heirloom quality. Main body of the gown has four rows of flower motifs, then a larger design near the bottom. The bottom edge has a scalloped border of flowers. Sleeves each have two of the flower motifs and the front yoke is a flower with leaves. Fastens in the back with three snaps that are reinforced with white ribbon that is sewn along the center back edge. Please see photos for closeup views. I'm guessing that this was made in the 1950s, but it could be older.
Filet crochet is difficult and time consuming. Someone was willing to work many hours on this for a special baby. Discovered in an estate sale and returned to its original snowy white color by carefully washing. I recommend hand washing and drying flat.
Ready to be worn by a new baby - perfect as a christening gown.
Measurements taken lying flat are:
Chest (bottom of yoke) - about 9 1/2 inches
Length, from shoulder seam to bottom of hem, about 23"
I would guess this to be a 3month old size
